Patents for software and AI – (how) does it work?

The Stellwerk18 cordially invites to the online event “Patents for software and AI – (how) does it work?”.

In this online seminar, speaker Thomas L. Lederer will talk about the following topics:

  • What is a patent attorney?
  • A brief history of the patent system
  • What kind of property rights are there?
  • Definition and justification of a patent
  • Examples of patents in the software sector
  • Employee invention law

The expert and speaker of this event is Thomas L. Lederer, who was born in Rosenheim. He studied physics, mechanical engineering and computer science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Technical University of Berlin before starting his training as a patent attorney in 2007. He is one of the very few (less than 1%) German patent attorneys who have graduated in computer science (Diplom-Informatiker Univ. from LMU Munich). He is therefore primarily concerned with the patenting of inventions that are referred to as “computer-implemented”, i.e. technical solutions that are only implemented in software.

Thomas L. Lederer works in Munich at ABP Burger Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, regularly publishes articles and takes part in events, most recently in March 2021 as an expert on AI patents at the user forum of the German Patent and Trademark Office.

Thursday, 05-06-2021, 09.30 a.m. – 10.45 a.m., virtual event
