Interview with Prof. Dr. Christina Bauer

Prof. Dr. Christina Bauer studied Information Science at the University of Regensburg until the end of 2012. After completing her master’s degree, she worked as research assistant at the Chair for Information Science. There she worked on various projects on intelligent navigation systems. Her teaching particularly focused on software design and evaluation. In addition to research and teaching, she was the coordinator of the new master’s course “Digital Humanities”. After her dissertation on the topic “Supporting orientation in the interior: Analysis of landmark-based map interfaces based on the gaze behavior of users”, she left the University of Regensburg in 2018 to gain experience in the private sector. On October 1st, 2020 she was appointed professor for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Teaching at the TH Deggendorf.

Prof. Dr. Christina Bauer
formerly Chair for Information Science
I was an employee of the Chair for Information Science. My courses mainly focused on software design and evaluation.
I am now professor for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Teaching at the TH Deggendorf.
At the THD, you can graduate a bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. So here the previous knowledge is determined by the curriculum. When I offer courses for other degree programmes, I always try to require as little prior knowledge as possible so that as many students as possible can take part.
Artificial Intelligence is a central topic on the high-tech agenda and in science and research in general. Definitely no one can ignore this topic in the future.
At the University of Regensburg, for example, as part of my master’s thesis, I developed a system that uses smartphone sensor data to predict the current pressure on drivers.
I mainly acquired my knowledge through self-study. That’s why I find a fortiori important that this content is conveyed systematically.
The new developments show that software can provide assistance in all areas of life with the help of artificial intelligence – from summarizing course content to intelligent care robots. In addition, this also poses many interesting social questions: How do we want to live in the future?
In addition to the specific courses on artificial intelligence, all students should definitely have the opportunity to acquire knowledge on these topics.
This project is an important step towards anchoring this important topic at the University of Regensburg.
